The Irish Hallmark
The Company of Goldsmiths of Dublin has been charged by the Irish government with
implementing laws relating to hallmarking of all pieces made from precious metals.
Hallmarks represent a series of marks stamped on pieces made from gold, silver and
platinum after the pieces have been found to be of the legal standard of purity before
they are offered for sale. The hallmark was the original form of consumer protection.
For the Irish hallmark to be complete it must have:
Makers or sponsors mark
The mark of Dublin Assay Offices
The metal fineness (purity mark)
The only authorized assay office in Ireland is the Assay
Office of The Company of Goldsmiths of Dublin located in Dublin Castle.
All of the jewelry presented in this category is
hallmarked and crafted by member companies of the Federation of Jewelry
Manufacturers of Ireland.
